We had an interesting return home. We stopped at Torreya State Park, at Stephen Foster Folk Center State Park, near Lake City and at Faver-Dykes State Park near St. Augustine.

Torreya SP (3 *) is a small park with a few campsites. Here one finds the plantation home of the Gregory family. The house was built by Jason Gregory, a prominent Calhoun County planter, in 1849. The home originally stood across the river from the state park at Ocheesee Landing, but was moved here and restored during the 1930s.

Stephen Foster Folk Center SP (5 *) is a beautiful park with many things to visit. Stephen Foster is a composer of over 200 songs before his death in 1864. Among his famous songs include "Old Suzanna" and "Old Folks at Home" which made the Suwannee River known worldwide. In this park, there are several hiking trails, a museum about the life of Stephen Foster, a tower with a carillon and magnificent houses of the time. The park is near the Suwannee River. On our way there, we had our 1st flat tire on the trailer.

We camped for our last two days in Florida at Faver-Dykes SP (4 *). This allowed us to visit the city of St. Augustine. It is a small tranquil campground with large campsites. We visited the city with a trolley to see the Old Jail, Fort Castillo de San Marcos, Downtown, the St Georges pedestrian street, the St Augustine distillery and St Augustine Cathedral.

We decided to head back home. We took the I-95 which was unfortunately very congested. We stopped at the Walmart in Walterboro, S.C. to sleep and there were 52 RV’s in the parking lot with us for the night. We stopped for our second night at the Denny’s near Richmond, Virginia, because it was too windy on the road. The 3rd night, we had to stop in Courtland, NY, since the blizzard made the road dangerous. A Good Samaritan told us that we had our second flat tire on the trailer. We immediately stopped for the night in the parking lot of Kmart. The next morning, we repaired the flat tire and we hit the road for home.

We had a very nice trip in an area that we knew very little about, but we are already planning to return in a few years. The road back was long and difficult, because we traveled four long days on very boring and unattractive roads.

All the photos from the trip are here.
